Visitors will get a real-life view and experience of life aboard a submarine. It had a crew of 78 officers and sailors. It draws 23 feet of water and has three diesel engines and three electric engines generating a surface speed of 13 knots and a submerged speed of 16 knots. The boat is 295 feet long, 28 feet wide and 48 feet high. Its mission was hunting, espionage, and patrol purposes. Soviet submarine U-434 was a Tango-class submarine of the Soviet and Russian Navies built in 1976 and remained in active service until approximately 2001. The U-434 submarine is in its original state (less radios and sensitive equipment).
U BOOT HAMBURGER HAFEN MOVIE
If you are expecting to see a television or movie version of submarine life or if you are expecting flashing lights, interactive devices or computer-generated images, then keep your money and do something else. Army officer and I always have an interest in military subjects and history. It is a permanent floating attraction year round.

One of the most popular attractions in Hamburg is the Soviet Tango class submarine U-434 (originally named the B-515). My treatment by the woman giving out tickets and the guide was shocking! I have never been treated like that anywhere else in the world! My 9 euros was well spent because its not every day you stumble across a u boat but the staff need training in customer service, personality transplants or replacing! I don't know what their problem was but they contributed detrimentally to my image of Hamburg unfriendly and ignorant! I went on the boat and was not even offered the extra tour to see the periscope, indeed I was offered no tour. He immediately made hand motions for me to go onto he bat by myself and did not utter one word to me. He spoke to me in German and I immediately said, "sorry, I'm English". Outside I went through the turnstile and saw a man gathering people together for a tour. I left it because I really wanted to complete the visit and my passport and money was on my person.

Not behind the service area for safety but in the shop itself. I then showed her my flight bag and she pointed to a place where she wanted me to leave it. She said "ticket?", I said "yes please, one". I entered the ticket office and immediately told the sales woman I was English. The opportunity to go aboard a u boat was one I could not miss, despite my misgivings at not speaking the language. So, I had a challenge and wished to explore the city, particularly the dock area, which is amazing. I am English and do not speak German but unexpectedly had to spend a day alone in Hamburg before flying home.
